THANKSGIVING!

Thanksgiving Day is celebrated tomorrow in the United States. So today we come out off our routine to explain what it is, where it came from, and how that important date is celebrated.

Thanksgiving Day came to be considered a national holiday from the year 1863, when Sarah Josepha Hale, a well-known American author, persuaded the then-President Abraham Lincoln to declare the fourth Thursday which was supposed to be the national holiday for Thanksgiving.

But in 1939, President Flanklin Roosevelt stated that it should be celebrated in the third week of the same month, thus helping local commerce. It happened that not all American states adhered to Roosevelt’s statement because it was not mandatory. Thus, the American Congress established that the date should be celebrated on the Thursday of the fourth week of November, thus declaring the national holiday.

This holiday is considered one of the most important holidays in the United States.

Celebrated as a day of gratitude to God for all the good events that have occurred over the past year. It is an American tradition to get together with family and friends on this date by having a large gathering and dinners.

The main dish offered on this day is usually the turkey. Accompanying the main dish we have the stuffing of turkey – corn bread cubes – mashed potatoes, dirty rice, macaroni and cheese, pumpkin pie, and others …

Happy Thanksgiving!!
