THE ROLE OF COLORS – PART 3

Neutral colors: Neutral colors are considered white, black, and grey. Therefore, other subtons can also be considered neutral colors, also affected by the blend of white and black, the most common being brown, and beige.

They are usually used to complement other colors. Among its main characteristic is the fact that they have low intensity, reflex and energy.

Neutral “absolute” colors, as we call them, are white and black (even if scientifically they are not considered colors). Respectively, they mean: the sum of all colors and the total absence of color.

WHITE

White means peace, purity and cleanliness. Also known as “light color” because it reflects all the colors and the solar rays, giving to the environment a total clarity.

In western culture, white is linked to life and joy, the opposite of oriental culture, that means death, sorrow, and mourning are associated.

A white environment provides freshness, calmness and gives idea of more space, which provides the feeling of freedom. If used in excess, white can give the impression of coldness, emptiness and impersonality, so we suggest the conjugation of it with colored objects, since it offers a perfect match with any other color.

BLACK

Considered the darker color, it is defined as the “absence of color.” It can mean respect, loneliness, isolation or fear. In addition, it can still mean luxury, elegance, dignity and sophistication.
Unlike white, black absorbs solar radiation, which means the environment can be warmer.
The black color can be obtained by mixing the three primary colors: red, blue and yellow. (We talked about these colors in another blog post – The Role of Colors: Part 1)

GREY

Grey comes from the blend of white and black, meaning elegance, neutrality, sophistication and absence of emotion. Because it is an intermediate color, gray can take on different shades, and for this reason it can take on both meanings from white and black when dark gray.
