Continuing with our subject on remodeling, we bring the third and final part of the survey conducted by Houzz & Home.
How long can a remodeling project take?
When the homeowner decides to start a renovation, everyone knows that it can take a lot of time. The construction phase is only one-third of the total time spent, including the planning phase. The chart below shows in months the average remodeling time of each area of the house. Kitchens appear first place which means they take longer to get ready, on average 5 months. The closet cabinets take less time, on average 2.5 months.
Why remodeling now?
As the US economy improved, many were the motivations for homeowners to start renovations at their new home. Many interviewees claimed to have enough money, but the waiting time for remodeling was still too long.
More than half of the respondents cited as number 1 reason that they decided to renovate their own home because they wanted to be in the same house. Another portion of those interviewed said reforming was more affordable than buying a new home.
The desire to stay in the same residence increased with age. Which means that the younger ones tend to buy a new home, while the older ones want to stay in the house where they live. In 2001, the average time that the owners stayed in the same house was 4 years. That number went up in 2014 to 9.5 years.
