We are becoming more and more dependent on the mobile and digital technology that surrounds us daily. Time spent at work is no longer dictated by access to a computer or filing system. Most work in today’s society can be performed on our laptops and smartphones. With that being said, the 21st century worker is no longer looking for a desk at work, but a place they can spend their days in an inspiring space that can bring them helpful ideas and contribute to their purposes.
A quick look in office designs on Google, shows a variety of environments that facilitates the cognitive and physical well-being of the worker and his colleagues. But as we know, changes are hard to make. Some people see the work environment as changing towards the prioritization of mobility, while others see this type of office as a warning for the rise of a “privacy crisis”.
In order to bring the “A” game to the table in a healthy and productive way, we need to have a sense of competency in our work to excel, relatedness with other people, and some sense of autonomy. If one can combine all these aspects into their workplace environment, they will have better performing employees. Autonomous people are psychologically healthier!
